Community Consultation is a Success

On Monday evening 24 March about 50 people attended Linde Reserve to discuss the Arts Eco Park with members of the Friends of Linde Reserve/Dunstone Grove. Those who attended included local residents, 3D Radio listeners worried about the future of the station and the weekly live concerts it offers and others who use the reserve on a regular basis. Everyone was keen to hear about the alternative to Council's draft master plan for the reserve and feedback about the alternative plan was overwhelmingly positive.

Although it retains many features of Council's draft master plan, including the naturalisation of Second Creek and the addition of playground and other amenities, the Friends' proposal for the precinct differs from Council's plan in several key areas. Our vision retains key built heritage elements that make the reserve unique in Adelaide, provides for the existing community groups to remain as a vibrant presence in the park and offers genuinely active and innovative spaces for communal activities including a community garden and amphitheatre. You can view our alternative plan here.

Council Plan vs a Community Vision

Norwood Payneham and St Peters have planned a major redevelopment of Linde Reserve/Dunstone Grove. You can read their side of the story here.

Council wants LRDG to be open space and to achieve that they plan to move out a range of community groups, knock down three nineteenth century buildings, remnants of Stepney's forgotten German history and chop down six significant trees, one of them is a River Red Gum.

Friends of Linde Reserve/Dunstone Grove have come up with a much more exciting idea that preserves our heritage but also makes the reserve a unique community arts eco-precinct.

An outline of the community's vision for LRDG can be found in our brochure. Click on the link in the side panel.

About the Linde Arts Eco Park

Linde Reserve/Dunstone Grove is a unique inner city reserve.

Norwood Payneham St Peters Council want to turn it into passive, easily managed
open space.

The Friends of Linde Reserve/Dunstone Grove) have a much better idea
- we want to turn it into an unique arts eco park.

Linde Reserve and Dunstone Grove comprise a 2.8 hectare park opposite the Avenues
shopping centre in Stepney. The reserve has open space, significant trees, a playground
and a concreted stretch of Second Creek. Cottages from Stepneys’ forgotten German
history, a Scout hall and the Perriam Centre, (used as a community hall) are scattered
around the reserve.

There is also a disused bowling green.

But what makes Linde Reserve and Dunstone Grove really special is the fact that it is the
home of several important arts and community groups - the St Peters Women’s
Centre, Knee High Puppets, No Strings Attached Disability Theatre and 3D radio.

These groups could be the basis of a unique arts eco park that would be the only one of
its kind in Adelaide. Friends of Linde Reserve/Dunstone Grove has been established to promote this vision.
